About
I began my graduate study at Notre Dame in 2003 and then moved in 2005 to UC Berkeley, where I completed my Ph.D. in 2009, under the direction of Alva Noë (now on his way to CUNY), John Campbell, and Lynn Robertson (in the psychology department). Since the start of 2010 I've been teaching at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
My primary research interests cluster around two main areas, each of which intersects in several places which the other:
- First, I am interested in the nature of self-knowledge and self-awareness, especially the distinctive way that human agents seem to be acquainted with their intentional actions.
- In addition to this, I am interested quite generally in the way that research in the cognitive sciences can be brought to bear on traditional philosophical problems, and vice versa.
For longer descriptions of these research interests, plus abstracts and links to published papers, please see my personal Web site.
